SMS Alert for ATM Withdrawal

Q1. Will I receive SMS alerts when I withdraw cash from any UOB ATM?
UOB cardholders will receive an SMS alert when a local or overseas ATM cash withdrawal at and above a certain threshold is made. This is in line with the security measures set out by the Association of Banks in Singapore.
Please ensure that your mobile phone is able to receive SMSes. You should inform the Bank immediately if you change your mobile phone number.
For your added protection, we also encourage that you change the PIN of the cards regularly.

Q2. What are some of the precautionary measures that I must take when I use my card?
We wish to share with you the following tips when using an ATM:
Be observant – If something about the ATM does not appear normal, cancel your transaction immediately. Confirm, as soon as possible, with the Bank that the transaction has been canceled. For your reference, a picture of the ATM card insertion slot is displayed prior to PIN entry at all UOB ATMs
Safety first – Use ATMs in well-lit and safe locations. If you notice anyone suspicious around you, use an ATM in a different location.
Keep your PIN confidential – Never share your PIN with anyone. Cover the hand used to key in your PIN with your other hand. This will reduce the chance of scammers recording your PIN via a hidden camera. Make sure that no one can see you entering your PIN or transaction amount. For added protection, we also encourage you to change the PIN for all your cards regularly.
Keep tabs – Keep close tabs on your account activities and report any fraudulent or suspicious withdrawals immediately.
Please also make sure that you inform the Bank immediately if there is any change in your particulars.

Q1. Why is UOB disabling all overseas ATM cash withdrawals?
- As part of recent industry-wide measures introduced by the Association of Banks in Singapore, overseas ATM cash withdrawal for all UOB ATM Cards, UOB Debit Cards and UOB Credit Cards linked to your Current / Savings Accounts will be disabled unless:
- instructions to enable overseas ATM cash withdrawal is received from the cardholder; and/or
- where the Bank has records that you used your ATM/Debit/Credit cards overseas recently, this function will still be available to you for your convenience.
- As part of recent industry-wide measures introduced by the Association of Banks in Singapore, overseas ATM cash withdrawal for all UOB ATM Cards, UOB Debit Cards and UOB Credit Cards linked to your Current / Savings Accounts will be disabled unless:

- With effect from 1 March 2012, overseas ATM cash withdrawals will be disabled.

- Yes, please refer to Question 1.

Q4. Can I enable overseas ATM cash withdrawals?
- Yes, you can enable overseas ATM cash withdrawal as follows:
- by calling our 24-hour Customer Service Hotline at 1800 222 2121 (or +65 6222 2121 when calling from overseas);
- by visiting and enquiring at any UOB branch during banking hours; or
- if you have a UOB Personal Internet Banking (“PIB”) account, you can submit your request via PIB.

- Yes, this will be carried out immediately if you contact our 24-hour Customer Service Hotline at 1800 222 2121 (or +65 6222 2121 when calling from overseas).

- Yes, you can disable the overseas ATM cash withdrawal function as follows:
- by calling our 24-hour Customer Service Hotline at 1800 222 2121 (or +65 6222 2121 when calling from overseas);
- by visiting and enquiring at any UOB branch during banking hours; or

Q7. I am a joint account holder and the mandate on the account is AND/OR. Both myself and the other joint account holder each have a card linked to the account. I want to enable / disable overseas ATM cash withdrawal for my card. Can I also enable / disable overseas ATM cash withdrawal for the card belonging to the other joint account holder?
- No. We will only be able to act on the instruction of the cardholder. In this case, please ask the other joint account holder to contact our Call Centre so that we can enable / disable the overseas ATM cash withdrawals immediately.

Q8. Can I deactivate my credit card from overseas ATM cash withdrawal?
- Yes, you can. This is provided that your credit card is linked to a Current / Savings Account. However, Credit Card Cash Advance will still be available for your usage.

Q1. I heard that UOB cardholders can access their accounts via UOB ATMs when they are overseas? When did you launch this new service?
- We have implemented a service that enables UOB ATM cardholders to perform overseas cash withdrawals and balance enquiries at any UOB ATM in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Q2. In which countries can I use my card?
- Overseas cash withdrawals and balance enquiries can be performed at all UOB ATMs in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Q3. What type of cards can I use in these participating countries?
- You can use your UOB ATM Card, UOB Debit Card or UOB Credit Card at any UOB ATM in these participating countries. In order for you to use them, your UOB Debit / UOB Credit Card first has to be linked to either your Savings or Current Account.

Q4. What are the services available to me?
- You can make cash withdrawals and perform balance enquiries on UOB ATMs in Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand.

Q5. Can I perform funds transfers between the accounts I have from either UOB Singapore to UOB Indonesia / UOB Malaysia or UOB Thailand?
- For the time being, Funds Transfers between countries are not available via UOB ATMs.

Q6. What type of accounts can I access when I’m in these participating countries?
- You can access your Savings or Current Accounts that are linked to your UOB ATM card/ UOB Debit Card / UOB Credit Card.

Q7. Can I use my ATM Card to perform any transactions over the teller counter?Transaction. What am I supposed to do?
- This service allows you to perform selected transactions at UOB ATMs in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Overseas over-the-counter transactions are currently not supported via your ATM card.

Q8. How do I know which UOB ATM I can use?
- You can use any UOB ATM in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Q9. Do I need to apply for this service?
- This service will be automatically enabled for all UOB cardholders in the participating countries. There is no need for you to specifically apply for this service.

Q10. How much can I withdraw from my account when I’m overseas?
- The same cash withdrawal limit applies when you are using your card overseas. For example: if your current cash withdrawal limit is S$3000 per day, then this limit will apply whenever you use your card in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Q11. Can I request for a higher withdrawal limit since I’m traveling overseas?
- The same withdrawal limit applies overseas as when you use your card in Singapore. This limit is designed to control your exposure in case of fraudulent transactions.

Q12. I’m a Privilege Banking Customer, how much can I withdraw when I’m overseas?
- The same cash withdrawal limit applies when you are overseas i.e. you can still withdraw up to S$5,000 per account or up to S$10,000 per card. Note: Default limit is S$3,000. Privilege Banking customers can apply to increase this to S$5,000.

Q13. How do I know what is the exchange rate used for my cash withdrawal transaction?
- You may view the foreign and home currency withdrawal details in your statement of accounts.

Q14. Do I know my available balance after performing the cash withdrawal transaction?
- Your account available balance will be printed onto the ATM receipt issued when you perform a cash withdrawal.

Q15. What is the fee charged to me for withdrawing cash on UOB ATMs overseas?
- There is no transaction fee for using this service.

Q16. Is there a cap imposed for per cash withdrawal transaction?
- You may withdraw any amount that you require subjected to your daily cash withdrawal limit and the cash available in the ATM.

Q17. Are the any fees charged for performing balance inquiry on my account?
- Balance enquiry transactions at overseas UOB ATMs are provided free of charge.

Q18. Can I choose the language option when using the overseas UOB ATMs?
- All transactions will be displayed in English regardless of whether they are performed at UOB ATMs in Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand.

Q19. Since I’m a frequent traveler to these countries, can I set my favourite transactions on the overseas UOB ATMs?
- The favourite transaction set-up function is currently applicable only to UOB ATMs in Singapore.

Q20. Can I do a PIN Change on the overseas ATMs?
- The PIN Change function can only be used at UOB ATMs in Singapore.

Q22. What are some of the precautionary measures that I must take when I use my card in these countries?
- These are some examples of precautionary measures which you should observe:
a. Always shield the PIN pad when you are entering your PIN
b. Ensure that there are no suspicious articles affixed to the ATM card insertion slot
c. Never write your PIN on your ATM card
d. Do not disclose your PIN to anyone

Q23. What if my ATM Card is lost while I am overseas?
- If you lose your card while traveling, kindly contact UOB Singapore Call Centre at 1800 222 2121 immediately to report your lost card.

Q24. Can I get a replacement card when I am overseas?
- Replacement ATM cards can only be issued in Singapore. You can visit any UOB Group branch in Singapore to request for a replacement card.

Q25. What if my card is retained by any of UOB ATMs in Indonesia / Malaysia or Thailand?
- You will need to request for a replacement card from UOB Singapore.

Q26. What if my account is debited and cash is not dispensed?
- If you encounter any problems when using your card while overseas, please contact UOB Singapore Call Centre at 1800 222 2121 to report your case. Alternatively, you may also contact the Bank when you return to Singapore.

Q27. When can I expect my account to be credited for the failed transaction?
- The turnaround time for settling inter-country cash discrepancies is about 2 weeks.

Q28. Can I still withdraw cash from non UOB ATMs?
- Yes, you can still continue to withdraw cash from non-UOB ATMs bearing the PLUS logo.

Q30. I performed a cash withdrawal in Thailand recently and noticed that the description of the transaction in my statement has changed from “IATM” to “RATM”. Can you please explain the difference?
- “RATM” and “IATM” are codes that we use to indicate transaction types. Transactions made at UOB ATMs in these participating countries are indicated as “RATM”. Transactions made at other overseas ATMs are marked as “IATM”.

Q31. I’m a Visa Debit Gold/Campus Debit Card holder and often perform cash withdrawals at UOB Malaysia ATMs. Do I still enjoy waivers on my first 3 overseas withdrawals?
- Yes, you can enjoy free cash withdrawals from all UOB Malaysia ATMs regardless of the number of cash withdrawals.

Q32. I recently performed a balance enquiry on my account at the UOB ATM in Thailand and noticed that the balance displayed appears incorrect. Can you let me know why? (Customer mistook the available balance as balance)
- The balance printed on the ATM receipt is the Available Balance in your account.
