In 1980, UOB was the first bank in Singapore to launch 24-hour automated banking services through the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). There were 12 such ATMs in place by end of that year.

Prior to this development, banking services in Singapore were confined to standard operating hours, limiting customers' access to their funds. Recognising the evolving needs of a rapidly modernising society, we provided a solution for round-the-clock banking services.

The introduction of such a service enabled customers to perform essential banking transactions – such as cash withdrawals and balance inquiries – at any time, without the constraints of traditional banking hours.

The successful deployment of the service paved the way for widespread adoption of automated banking services across the nation and catalysed a transformation in how banking services were delivered.
