In the bustling Singapore of the 1950s and 60s, a young Dr Wee Cho Yaw found himself at a crossroad of tradition and ambition. His father, Datuk Wee Kheng Chiang would host lunch gatherings at the family home every Sunday – and these were a masterclass in networking and relationship building.

There was no formality in these meetings; rather, they were defined by a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect. As the men around the table shared stories, Dr Wee saw how they supported one another, and understood the need to stay close to the market and listen closely to customers and business associates.

At UOB, teamwork and collaboration are at the heart of the Bank. Dr Wee understood that as a leader, one must stay close to the ground, know the needs of others and provide ready support building mutual trust over the long term.
