In 1995, UOB unveiled the refurbished UOB Plaza 2, a landmark that reflected the Bank’s ambitions and commitment to Singapore’s economic progress.

Originally completed in 1973, the building underwent a comprehensive refurbishment led by world-renowned Japanese architect Professor Kenzo Tange, celebrated for designing iconic Singaporean landmarks like the National University of Singapore’s Kent Ridge campus and the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The extensive revamp added eight new floors, elevating UOB Plaza 2 to a 38-storey, 162-metre tower with a modern façade and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Linked seamlessly to UOB Plaza 1 through a 45-metre podium housing the Bank’s main branch, the design symbolised operational unity and further solidified UOB’s presence in Singapore’s Central Business District.

Billed as “Asia’s ultimate business address,” the upgraded plaza became a sought-after location, attracting prominent tenants. Its official opening, graced by Singapore's first Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, on 6 August 1995, also celebrated UOB’s 60th anniversary, underscoring the Bank’s legacy as a pillar of Singapore’s economic and commercial growth.
